About Me

Hi :) I'm Krystal.

I'm a student advisor, educator, and career coach. I'm passionate about supporting students and helping individuals discover and pursue their purpose in life.

I am a lifelong learner dedicated to investing in my professional development in order to better serve my clients.

MY JOURNEY:

A COMBINATION OF FORETHOUGHT & PLANNED HAPPENSTANCE

My own journey is a big part of why I am so passionate about career development. I hope that sharing my experience will encourage students to seek professional support with career planning.

The theory of Planned Happenstance suggests that unplanned events can influence one's career path. Despite the time I put into meticulously planning my career, it was ultimately a few unplanned experiences that lead me to find my purpose. When I reflect back on my journey, there is one specific experience that redefined my career path....

I spent my undergraduate years studying education and preparing for a career in teaching. In the final year of the program, I started my first practicum and very quickly realized that the classroom environment was not for me. My undergraduate program (concurrent education) was very specialized, so I felt pigeonholed in a career I no longer wanted to pursue. To say I panicked would be an understatement...I was in distress.

After graduating from Teacher's College, I took a year off to rediscover my interests and explore potential career opportunities. I applied to a number of master's programs (hoping more education was the answer) and was accepted into OISE's Master of Education, Higher Education program. At the time this program was not my first choice, but I'm so happy I made the decision to pursue this program. Through my courses and experiential learning experience, I developed a passion for student development and student services. Towards the end of my graduate degree, I completed course, Career Counselling and Development. This course sparked an interest in career coaching.

Discovering my own purpose was no easy undertaking. I can empathize with the frustration, disappointment, and stress that stems from career confusion.

I was able to successfully navigate my career journey on my own, but you don't have to! Let's connect and discuss how I can help
